Friend of mine requested me to read .She claim it is worth reading and got it from Amazon. Being a bookworm, I can resists to search 4 local bookshops to get one for myself.

The book: “Proof of Heaven – A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife” by Dr Eben Alexander

Amazon Book category: Religion & Spirituality > Religious Studies > Science & Religion

Paperback: 208 pages

Book Description: This book is about how a trained Brain Surgeon with 25 years of experience who once gave advice to it patient that any experience during operation is produce by the mind and there is no such things as after life experience.

Became advocate for near death experience research. This happen after survived from COMA for 7 days. Dr Eben writes his experience why he believes there is after life now.

Strong Points: Dr Eben provide insight from medical communities’ point of view on the Human life in this earthly bound life and why he feels the same prior experiencing NDE (near death experience)

The book covers detail experience what he heard, saw and felt being out of body experience for 7 days and how the family and Doctors tried to wake him up from coma.

The strongest point is clinical aspects of Dr. Alexander’s view make this story unique. Since most of other available NDE books are mostly about experience by non-medical worker.

Week Points:Writing something beyond human experience is a challenge to writes because there are limited vocabularies to describe something beyond earthly life. Hence the author focused more on how his family handles the situation.  The near death experience (NDE) was shared in between chapter with no closure to plot, this may disappoint reader.

Book Review:Proof of Heaven – A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife is a good read, fronts are big and made it easy for reading. If you want to know about NDE survivor story- this book would satisfy you. It has 35 chapters each with an average of 3 to 4 pages.

Quote from the book

A Man should look for what is and not what he think should be: – Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

The true value of human being is determined primarily by the measure and the sense in which he has attained liberation from the self – Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

There are two ways to be fooled. One is to believe what isn’t true, the other is to refuse to believe what is true” – Soren Kierkegaard (1813-1855)

There are two ways to live your life, One is as though nothing is miracle. The other is as if everything is” – Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

I must be willing to give up what I am in order to become what I will be” – Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

Early life and pre-coma stage –A prominent neurosurgeon at Harvard University, At the age of 54, contracted a severe form of E. Coli meningitis (one in 10 million) which can be unusual case of brain surgery. Where he claim his status as N of 1, in medical term its consider as “single patient on entire trial”  His doctors tried to review all medical literature back dated to 1990s to find a surviving E-Coli meningitis patient.

His chance of survival in a vegetated state is only 10%. Most path of the 1st half covers how he felt before admitting to hospital and his family background.

Author gave little glimpse about near death experience and focus on how his family responded to his 7 days coma in ICU.

Days in heaven – He describe his experience in earthworm’s eye view where he understood every one of us is divine and what the only thing separate us from going beyond and experience.

There was angel in heaven, he couldn’t recognize but guided him from the gateway to core and gave 3 messages during his stay in heaven. He also describes the scenery, sound, and the different in time and space identity. Unlike earthly physical experience, every experience in heaven could not be described completely due to limited word to state what he experience clearly and accurately.

The rest of the books are about how he debated and bring clarity about NDE is real and is within our reach to human race.

Final Remark - I find it worth reading if you have some interest to know what is NDE ?. What I like the most which is new to me was the medical explanation on the real NDE starts and his long list of referral should you decide to read more on the subject.

Finally, the book gave me some reassurance on my personal believe that I can build upon.

I know, some of you can’t wait to know the 3 message he gotten in Heaven.

  1. You are loved and cherished.
  2. You have nothing to fear
  3. There is nothing you can do wrong
